Yapping to PRDs: Claude Code & Obsidian
You know that feeling — you’re grabbing coffee with a colleague, talking about the project, and suddenly someone drops a brilliant idea. Then you get back to your desk and… it’s gone. Vanished. Like it never happened.
That’s what Heinrich decided to fix. His approach is dead simple: record the conversation, then let AI mine it.
Not some stiff “this meeting is now being recorded” kind of recording. Just two people naturally chatting about the project, bouncing ideas, saying things like “hey, should we tweak that feature?” — and then handing the transcript to Claude.

But First: Your Notes Can’t Be a Dumpster Fire

Every piece of knowledge has its own “address,” and AI knows exactly where to look.
Why Talking Beats Writing
Okay, you might be thinking: why not just write documentation directly? Why go through the whole record-and-transcribe dance?
The answer is something called Tacit Knowledge.
Picture this: you ask a senior engineer “why did you design the API this way?” They might say “I dunno, it just… felt right.” Behind that “felt right” is ten years of debugging nightmares, but when they write docs, all you get is “API endpoint: /users/:id, method: GET.” The entire reasoning process evaporates.
But when they’re just talking? They’ll naturally say things like “I actually considered GraphQL first, but after that disaster on the last project, no way” or “we went with REST because our mobile team knows it better.” The reasoning path, the uncertainties, the “I almost picked A but went with B” — transcripts catch all of it.

Mining, Not Summarizing
This is the most important mindset in Heinrich’s whole system: he’s not asking AI to “summarize” meetings. He’s asking it to mine them.
What’s the difference? Summarizing is like watching a two-hour movie and telling your friend “it’s about a guy who goes to space and comes back.” Mining is extracting every scene’s insights — character motivations, foreshadowing, cinematography choices, soundtrack decisions.
A rich one-hour meeting can yield 10+ ideas, several frameworks, a dozen decisions. If your AI only gives you a 3-4 point summary, you haven’t gone nearly deep enough.

Think of it this way: you spend an evening at a street food market and tell your roommate “I ate some stuff” — that’s summarizing. Listing every stall you hit, which oyster omelet was best, what the vendor told you, what gossip you overheard in line — that’s mining. His prompt design has four steps. First, define the role — you’re the knowledge architect for this vault, your job is to process meeting transcripts with exhaustive depth, and missing content is unacceptable.
Then tell AI what to actively hunt for: feature ideas (“wouldn’t it be cool if…”), project sparks, mental models, team philosophies, decisions, status updates, action items, blockers. Even implicit content — ideas buried inside problem discussions, philosophies mentioned as asides, decisions made by not deciding (like “let’s not wait for that” — that’s a decision).
Third step is vault synchronization — meetings reveal new reality, so the vault has to match. Every project mentioned gets compared against its current hub state, and discrepancies get resolved.
Finally, quality standards: if a one-hour meeting only produces less than a page of output? Red flag. Only 1-2 ideas extracted from a brainstorming session? Red flag. A meeting full of status updates but zero state changes identified? Red flag.
